Some Ruff Competition Flyball Team

Susan Newby & John Turcic

Susan's flyball career began in 1992 with Andy the pug,  A little dog with a huge attitude.  Unfortunately Andy lost his sight at the age of three and was retired from the sport he loved.  Susan started handling Rebel, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and became a 'handler for hire'.  She met John Turcic who owned "Rebel's" mom Ruby,  "Here's a story of a man named ...

In 1998 Ruby became the proud mom of Bentley (and Higgins).  Bentley competed 'til 2003 when he retired due to first, a fractured toe, and then cruciate surgery.  He still enjoys coming out to tournaments and ruling the team crating area and from time to time can be seen running in a Futurity.

For a young man, John has been in flyball for a long, long time.  Since 1991 in fact, when he began in the sport with "The Graduates" (the team that Glenn captained) at the Barrie Balloon Festival. (Emily was the tournament director, and her club hosted).  John owned two Staffies, Bud and Ruby - who went on to become a "special lady".  This little girl's offspring still play all over North America.  Along the way John found the other love of his life, Susan Newby and the rest is history.  John has been a handler ("Too Close John" - makes your heart stop with his exchanges), boxloader and general mechanic for team members when their cars needed emergency repairs.

Susan and John set out on a special "quest" on May 4th, 2003 traveling to Missouri.  Not torrential rain nor tornados could slow them down. When they finally returned home to Stoney Creek with little "Quest" she was so very quiet and shy - she didn't know how to play or respond to the simplest little things.  With a lot of love and training on Susan's part Quest became one very happy little girl who was involved in frisbee, agility and flyball before her tragic loss in 2006.

John, however, has a deep dark secret (it's the Museum!).  The  museum is an early 1970's Mopar.   Lovingly restored over the last eleven years, it bears the license plate "MUZEUM" (courtesy of Susan - you'll have to ask her why).

John is a welcome addition to the team, Papa John appreciates his help as a seasoned box loader and the rest of us love to watch John and Susan try to out exchange each other on the floor!!

We welcomed Susan, John and free spirited Quest to our lineup in June 2004 followed by Savvy one year later!   John & Susan now have a new addition to their household, a cute little girl with a good English Name "Fae".  The definition of her name is a Variant of Faith. Confidence: trust: belief.  This perfectly named little lady isn't lacking in confidence, we all believe that she has put her trust in John and Susan to show her all the great things that a dog can do!
