The "Kids in the Hall"

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's sole remains unawakened"   ~  Anatole France

Coming out of the 2008 SharkFEBSt things were being readied for Some Ruff Competition's three days at the All About Pets Show.

Then on February 12th, 2008 our team mates Sherri and Jennifer Hall and Brad Heppell suffered the tragedy of a house fire.  The loss of the house is covered by insurance.  Possessions can be replaced but memories stay with you.   The loss of their cherished family pets is heartbreaking.

We would like to thank the Flyball, Dock Dogs and Golden Retriever communities for their support, donations of clothing, food, manpower and condolences at this time.  Mailing addresses and information on the Maplelane Fire Fund can be found at the bottom of this page.

Jennifer's Australian Shepherd "Phurie" and Sherri's Australian Cattle Dog "Trasher" were integral in Some Ruff Competition earning the 2004 Region 2 Multi Breed Championship.  Jennifer's Border Collie "Marley" along with Trasher played key roles in us earning the 2002 Region 2 Multi Breed Championship.  Golden Retriever "Porsha" was ready when ever we needed her.  Racing like there was no tomorrow, they gave their all each and every time they hit the floor.

Trasher was such a gentleman who would 'allow' all of our new handlers to take a turn.  He taught them timing; patience and one unforgettable lesson "never get in the way of a cattle dog and their tug".  Arranging tennis balls was one of his favorite things to do . . . he was thrilled when he found the new bag of 100 balls on Monday and was able to surround himself with them.

Trasher loved his tennis balls, the more the merrier or the bigger the better.

Determined to be on his way from the box.

Phurie went through more leashes than any dog on the team.  She would stand beside her handler showing tons of patience only to have the handler yell out when she was headed to the floor.  Aptly named "Powerpaks Dark Angel" she had a knack for eating her way through a lead in seconds flat.  If she didn't have a leash available the handle of a tug toy would do . . . many brand new tugs were modified by the "Phu".

Phurie at the All About Pets Show . . . clocking 4.1's was nothing out of the ordinary for her.

Marley taught Jen many valuable lessons in life, never has there been a tighter bond between dog and owner.   Marley took on the duties of a Goose Dog with as much gusto as she showed in the flyball lanes.  Almost ten years of learning together, acquiring accomplishments and sharing their hearts.

Porsha, the matriarch of Maplelane Goldens, raising puppies and overseeing litters with the devotion of the grand dam she was.  She raced flyball, but her true love was with the little ones.  Her legacy lives on in the new generations.

They traveled to the Rainbow Bridge with their protector  "Norwood's Wrangler" a border collie with a determination like few others.  Wrangler accomplished much in his life but his love was keeping the geese off the golf courses and standing guard over the door to the house.

Ours hearts are with Katie & John Quinlan on the loss of their very special friend

"Skippy"

a honorary member of the 'Kids in the Hall' for so many years.
